Summary | 0000062: Google Summer of Code 2019?
Description | I sent this message on the mailing list but didn't get any reply so I thought it made sense to open a tcket here which doesn't get lost. I don't know if it will ever be realized but I throw my 2 cents idea here. Why Cinelera GG doesn't apply to Gsoc? I follow another project (Synfig) which is run by few people and they had problems finding students to apply. I opened a github ticket (which I admit has probably more visibility than a mailing list) and they were able to find not 1 but 2 people willing to work on the project during Gsoc. Could Cinelerra do the same? Afaik the students have to do some contribution to the project before applying and of course they must have a grasp of the code. The deadline for this year was January but maybe by 2019 we could find someone interested? Maybe a page in the website could help to spead the message that students are welcome to apply?

Tried this "CinGG summer of code" and got zero results. Donated $2400 and got zero results / failure from Ernest Ibarra.
@WPFilmmaker @PhyllisSmith I think it's a great idea. I will set up a special Developer page, where such "Help needed" items are summarized. This page must be animating or motivating to support us. |

@PhyllisSmith I am not a developer so I never dealt with Gsoc if not as follower of open source projects. Afaik the student(s) have to be mentored by a member of the project (in this case GG), so of course this could (would?) require time. Yes I liked the "help-needed" tag, LibreOffice which has a large code base has a list of "easy-to-fix bugs" to attract newcomers who might be scared by the code size. Maybe Cinelerra could do the same and add a voice that links to such list on the website?
@WPFilmmaker I like the idea and I looked at the internet information on this after you sent the earlier email. I just think that the coordination and administration of going through google would be a burden. BUT if there is a Computer Science student out there who already knows how to program with C and C++ they could get experience by coordinating with us directly. "HELP needed" tag opens up possibilities to look for if anyone is interested in helping and/or mentoring. GG likes to explain code and passing on his knowledge about cinelerra to willing listeners. |
