This video is very well done, although it is not for Cinelerra. It shows very clearly how to make a color correction with the help of color chart.

Hi, Sam,

This video is very informative on the procedure for balancing colors using a small X-Rite chart, under FinalCut.

I have often been tempted to buy a similar calibration chart, but I am not convinced that it would be easy to achieve the same correction possibilities under Cinelerra-GG. This would surely involve several superimposed filters, which may slow down the video display very much, especially if there are several different cameras, with different corrections in several mixers playing simultaneously...

How would you proceed to obtain the same level of adjustments and corrections under Cinelerra-GG?

The problem is that the vector and wavesope from Cinelerra is limited. I like to work with the waveform, but the display is not optimal. It's too pixelated and I don't have a waveform that displays all three colors in one image. The colors red, blue and green are displayed separately. For this reason I make my color corrections with DaVinci Resolve. For simpler videos that do not go to the customer, I still use Cinelerra. In this case I only do simple color correction, that means stretching the color spectrum over the whole length. I pick a white surface in the video and use the white balance. If I want some warmer colors, I add some red or remove some blue. But I do that more according to my feeling.
