Is LongGOP OK for editing?

I find long-GOP too heavy on computer resources for anything other than a very short movie. It's far better to transcode to an all-i format first, such as DNxHR_HQX. The file sizes will be a lot larger, but the computer can cope with them more easily and the resulting edit is much smoother.
