Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
This privacy policy describes what personal data is processed when you visit and use the Cinelerra-GG website and its community services. Cinelerra-GG is a non-commercial open-source community project. We deliberately keep data processing to a minimum.
Controller
The controllers responsible for the processing of data in connection with this website and its linked community services are Sam and Phyllis, jointly reachable at [email protected]. Please also send privacy questions, access and deletion requests to this address.
Principles
We collect as little data as possible. There are no advertising networks, no behavioural tracking and no profiling. Data is processed solely for the operation of the respective services and is never sold or shared for advertising or marketing purposes.
What data is processed
When you visit this website, technical access data (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, browser type) is logged in server logs for operational purposes and abuse protection. These logs are rotated regularly. When you subscribe to the mailing list, we store your email address and list preferences. Your contributions to the list are archived publicly. When you create an account on the forum, bug tracker or upload platform, your username, email address and content you submit are stored. Posts and bug reports are publicly visible. When you download files, basic access information is recorded in server logs.
Legal basis
Where the General Data Protection Regulation (EU Regulation 2016/679, GDPR) applies, processing is based on: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the use relationship, e.g. when subscribing to the mailing list or forum), Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure operation of the infrastructure and abuse protection), and Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent, in particular for non-essential cookies and external embeds).
Cookies and local storage
This website uses only technically necessary cookies and local storage (e.g. for language choice, cookie preferences and login sessions). Statistics, marketing and external content cookies are disabled by default and only activated after your consent. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via the .
External service providers
For DNS and CDN services we use Cloudflare, which may process connection metadata. The servers are operated at Netcup in Austria. Embedded content (e.g. videos) is loaded only after your explicit consent via cookie settings and may involve providers such as YouTube or Vimeo.
Retention period
Server logs are rotated and deleted within a few weeks. Accounts and their content remain in place until you request their deletion. Mailing list archives are permanently public and part of the project history; subsequent deletion of individual archived posts is only possible in well-founded exceptional cases.
Your rights
Where the GDPR applies, you have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21) regarding your personal data. Please send requests to [email protected].
Right to complain
If you believe that the processing of your personal data violates applicable data protection law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection supervisory authority responsible for your location.
Changes to this policy
We may adjust this privacy policy if services or legal requirements change. The current version is always available on this page together with the date of the last update.
