Using cinelerra-gg I am experiencing segmentation fault from time to time.

I noticed that cinelerra generates a dump file when that happens. Is that something that would be useful to someone directly?

(Working on personal codes, dumps are not always super useful if you can't reproduce the problem locally.)

Is this the right place to report the problem, or should I post it in the issue tracker?

I may be running a version that is a few month old (build date seems to be in last August).  I usually don't update software until a period of low activity. But if you think upgrading cinelerra might help, I can give that a shot.

@godrik

This is very concerning that you are crashing so much.  It is OK to report this here. If I had to guess, it may be the vicons that are causing the problem.  Fixes for this was added in October 2020 and there is an October release out there.  However, if you do not want to update, then in the Resources window, use text instead of the vicon images.  You can change to text, by cycling using the letter "v" in the Resources window.

There was also another SEGV fixed in September but this one is less likely to  be the problem you have encountered.

The best thing to do is to try to remember the LAST THING you did before it crashes.  Being able to reliably reproduce the error is the only way a programmer can find the problem, make a fix for it, and ensure that the fix actually fixes the problem.  In other words if we can not reproduce the problem here, it is doubtful it will get fixed.

The programmer who loved to read the dumps (and I looked over his shoulder mesmerized by that capability) is sadly no longer with us.  But do send a dump because I might be able to see if it looks like the vicons are causing the problems.  You can send to [email protected].
